The late Martin I. Resnick, M.D., a member of the Alfred University class of 1964, is the posthumous recipient of the 2009 Alfred University Alumni Award for Distinguished Achievement. The honor is given to alumni whose achievements in their profession, career, avocational pursuits, or service to society bring honor and distinction to Alfred University. Recipients must show loyalty and commitment to the University.

The award will be presented to Dr. Resnick’s widow, Vicki A. Resnick of Shaker Heights, Ohio, AU class of 1964, during the University’s annual Reunion Weekend, June 12-14.

Dr. Resnick graduated from Alfred University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He went on to receive an M.D. from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, North Carolina in 1969. He spent his professional life as a physician, doctor, surgeon, and he served as professor and chairman at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, one of the top medical schools in the country, from 1981 to 2007. Dr. Resnick died in June 2007.

Dr. Resnick’s devotion to the field of medicine earned him numerous awards, such as the Physician’s Recognition Award, the Neal Award for Contemporary Urology Editorials, the Distinguished Contribution Award presented by the American Urological Association, and Chicago Urological Society’s John T. Grayhack Award, to name a few.

An author of more than 400 medical publications, he was also an active member of a number of associations, including the American Board of Urology, which he served as president; the American Foundation of Urologic Disease, and the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Lynn Morrison, an AU class of ‘63 alumna, nominated Dr. Resnick.
